Students formed a human chain at Jagannath University (JUB) demanding an end to extrajudicial killings and mob justice. It was organized by the students’ organization Human Rights Society on Friday (September 20) at Shahid Minar of Bad Juma University.
The students in the human chain said that when human rights deteriorate, our hearts bleed. All teachers and students should be aware of human rights violations. We are protesting against the mob justice that is being done in hilly areas, universities and the violation of human rights. Killing is happening in Dubai. We will not tolerate these injustices. It will stop if the interim government can ensure justice for these injustices.
The general secretary of the organization, Junaid Masood, said, “We have seen pictures of various human rights organizations protesting before.” We do not want absolute human rights. Everyone’s human rights must be guaranteed. Extrajudicial killings, mob justice must be stopped. The law should reflect the will of the people. All murders must be prosecuted by law.
The president of the organization, Masud Rana, said that there are laws and courts in Bangladesh. If one does wrong, the other does not have the right to punish that wrong. Law-courts will punish injustice. As the murderers were brought under the punishment in Abra’s murder, those involved in Tofajjal’s murder must also be brought under the law and justice must be ensured. We don’t want unstable campuses like before.
