Former IGP of Police AKM Shahidul Haque and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun have been arrested by law and order forces. They were arrested on Tuesday (September 3) night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Branch (DB) Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik told Kalbela that they were arrested from Dhaka at night. Currently both of them are kept in DB custody.
There are multiple cases against these two former IGPs. However, it was not confirmed in which case they were arrested.
AKM Shahidul Haque passed the Bangladesh Civil Service Examination in 1984 and joined the Bangladesh Police Force in 1986 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Shahidul Haque served as Superintendent of Police in Chandpur, Moulvibazar, Chittagong and Sirajganj districts. Served as DIG of Police Headquarters, Rajshahi Range and Chittagong Range. Apart from serving as a police commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he held various important positions in the police. He was appointed IGP on the last day of 2014 and retired on 31 January 2018.
His house is in Narbalakhana village of Naria upazila of Shariatpur. His younger brother Ismail Haque was the Joint General Secretary of District Awami League and Chairman of Naria Upazila Parishad. Another brother Nurul Haque Bepari is a member of Naria Upazila Awami League.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was the 31st Inspector General of Bangladesh Police. He was appointed Inspector General of Bangladesh Police on 30 September 2022.
Earlier he served as the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and headed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police.
